Winter Trends That Look Good on Everyone

Screen Shot 2013-12-06 at 12.27.50 AM

Sometimes it can be difficult to find winter clothes that keep you warm without having to layer on 10 other items of clothing. The trends listed below are both flattering and warm, saving you from that unnecessary extra layering.
The first trend is a simple blazer. Not only will a blazer keep you warm, but it is also form-fitting and flattering. You can find one just about anywhere, in any color. The one pictured above can be found online at nordstrom.com.
Another staple item for this winter is a boyfriend cardigan. While this item is oversized, when paired with form fitting clothes underneath it’s perfect for simple layering. The cardigan above is from Forever 21.
Lastly, and most versatile, are colored or patterned tights. You can wear them with virtually any outfit, especially with skater skirts or sweater dresses. Not only will they keep your legs warm, but they’ll also allow you to transition some of your warmer weather clothes into your winter wardrobe.

Top 5 Layering Must-Haves For This Winter

According to GLAMOUR magazine, these are a few of the fashion pieces necessary for layering the colder weather this winter:

  1. A cashmere sweater – a plain, crewneck cashmere sweater is perfect for this winter. You can wear it with a collared shirt underneath, or even with a skirt, over a dress, or with a pair of patterned trousers.
  2. A bright colored coat – when looking for a coat to purchase this winter, step out of your comfort zone and purchase one of a brighter color. This way, the coat can add a pop of color to the grays, blacks, and navy blues of any outfit that are popular winter colors.
  3. Knee-high boots – these are not only trendy, but warm as well. Flat knee-highs are more casual, while a heeled pair can dress up any outfit. These are a perfect staple item for this winter.
  4. A knit sweaterdress – sweaterdresses are perfect for those warmer winter days. You can pair them with a scarf and boots for a comfy, cozy, laid-back look.
  5. A printed scarf – scarves are obviously must-haves for the winter, and a patterned or printed one can add that necessary pop of color, and will also keep you warm on those windier days.

Best Dressed at the AMAs

Best Dressed at the AMAs

For this post, I thought I would discuss the celebs that were awarded the title of “best dressed” at this year’s American Music Awards as a follow up to my last post.

Miley Cyrus was a personal favorite of mine at this year’s awards show. Cyrus has been criticized for wearing very little clothing at her recent appearances, however at the AMAs she toned things down a little. She looked very classy in her white Versace blazer and trousers, and it was nice to see her more “covered up” for a change. Her simple black heels also added the perfect touch.

As predicted, Taylor Swift was also a Fashion Police favorite. Gold seems to be Swift’s go to color for this awards show, and this year proved no different. She looked effortless in her gold sequined mini-dress and matching heels, with her hair looking more natural to balance out the dress.

Glee star Naya Rivera also looked stunning in her long sleeved, black ensemble. Her gold accents provided the perfect eye-catching pop of color.

There were several other stars who were placed under the category of “best dressed”, but these were just a few of my favorites.

Fashion at the 2013 AMAs

As this year’s American Music Awards are approaching, fashion experts are predicting who will rock the red carpet. Last year, stars like Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum, and Christina Aguilera were the top fashion icons of the awards show.

Taylor Swift is known for always wearing sparkly clothing decked out in sequins, and last year was no different. Swift wore a beautiful gold sequin and lace dress. During her live performance at the show, she transformed into a red floor-length gown. I predict that she will be the fashion critics’ one to watch at this year’s awards show.

This year’s AMAs will air live at 8/7 p.m. central on November 24 on ABC.

Fashion PR 101

For this week’s post, I was assigned to write about something related to public relations. The first question I asked myself was, “what does a fashion publicist actually do?” So, I did some research and here’s what I found out.

A fashion publicist is basically in charge of everything related to the name, press, brand, image, magazine credits, etc. Like any other PR representative, they are inclined to maintaining the reputation of the company they represent. A publicist also makes sure to keep all relationships with people involved in their company on good terms.

There are a variety of aspects of the fashion industry, so a fashion publicist can serve several diverse roles. However, most PR people in this specific business spend their time gaining exposure for their company.

To be a fashion publicist, you don’t have to attend a fashion institute. Brooke Moreland, who writes for “PR Couture”, claims that she got into the fashion industry pretty randomly. “I didn’t go to fashion school or have aspirations to be in the fashion world,” Moreland said. “I have a very business-oriented mind and I came here after working in restaurants and hotels and doing a little film.”

The best advice that I found online for someone interested in a career as a fashion publicist is to gain experience through internships or jobs related to the fashion industry. Working during Fashion Week can be especially beneficial, because you can really test your abilities to handle the pressure associated with a job in this business.

How to Stay Trendy (& Warm) this Fall!

How to Stay Trendy (& Warm) this Fall!

After picking up the most recent issue of “Seventeen” magazine, I read about the latest trends that celebs are sporting this fall. Not only are these styles easy to incorporate into your own fashion, but they are also efficient in terms of keeping you warm on those chilly fall days. In fact, you might already own some of these items in your closet.

For the first trend, you can use some of your summer clothing items and transition them into your fall wardrobe. For example, take a simple skater skirt, pair it with a sweater and some transparent tights and you’re set! The outfit shown can be purchased at H&M online or in stores.

The second trend is perfect for this windy autumn days; beanies are a perfect way to keep your hair in place, as well as to keep your head warm and toasty! A solid-colored beanie can easily be paired with any casual fall outfit as a statement piece. The beanie pictured above can be purchased at Nordstrom Rack, online or in stores.

The last trend is very fall friendly – and animal friendly, too. Faux fur vests are a must have this season. They’re also very versatile – you can pair them with any old long sleeve tee and jeans or leggings. These vests are both warm and lightweight – the perfect combo for fall weather! The dusty rose vest pictured above can be found at Forever 21, online or in stores.

Now Trending: Ankle Boots!

Now Trending: Ankle Boots!

Now that it’s officially fall and chilly weather is right around the corner, it’s time to put away your strappy summer sandals and dust off your fall boots. Last year, tall, knee-high riding boots were all the rage. This year, celebs like Nicole Richie, Giselle Bundchen, and Kate Moss (pictured above) have all been spotted wearing ankle boots as the fall weather approaches. You can pair them with your favorite pair of skinny jeans or leggings and a big chunky sweater for a more comfy-casual look; or to dress up your look, pair them with tights and a dress! The boots pictured on the top right can be found at Nordstrom’s for $129.95; but if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, the boots pictured on the top left can be found at Target for only $34.99 (links included below).
